Katy Perry and Zedd dropped a gloriously glitchy remix package for their collab, “365.”
Following the AI-inspired video is a remix EP for “365.” Hopefully it breathes new life into the track, because curiously the song underperformed chart-wise. Issa bop, and deserves to have mainstream success.
On the re-workings, Katy croons over different electro-tinged, frenetic tropical beats crafted by Zedd, Jonas Aden, Ellis and KUURO. They’ll sound outrageous in a nightclub.
To refresh your memory, in the Warren Fu-directed video (Daft Punk), Katy plays a femme bot learning to love Zedd. She begins discovering what it’s like to actually feel while realizing her attempts to romanticize Zedd ultimately pushes the producer away, and it drives her to kill. There’s also a curious twist at the end.
Katy’s representation of a ’60s-style robotic femme fatale is eerily spot on, and a refreshing reminder that she’s still a pop force to be reckoned with. According to a press release, Katy concocted the video’s concept herself.
Here’s a statement from Zedd about the song:
“Katy and I have known each other for a while now and while on tour together in Australia last summer, we started working on some music,” Zedd says. “After we got off tour and with our musical value systems even more aligned we continued working together and that’s when ‘365’ started to take shape. As it all came together, we knew we had something special. I love how Katy sounds on this record. I’m so excited to finally share this with our fans.”
