The Weeknd will no longer collaborate with H&M.

The singer announced his decision to part ways with the company today (Jan. 8) after a new photo appeared on the company’s website of a little African American boy wearing a hoodie that read “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle.”

“woke up this morning shocked and embarrassed by this photo,” the singer wrote. “i’m deeply offended and will not be working with @hm anymore…”

The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) began collaborating with H&M in 2017 under his XO brand.

H&M have since pulled the image off their website and issued a statement, but the damage is done.

“We sincerely apologize for offending people with this image of a printed hooded top… We believe in diversity and inclusion in all that we do and will be reviewing all our internal policies accordingly to avoid any future issues.”

Very disgusting and insensitive. WHO. APPROVED. THIS?

  1. Yeah, simply disgusting, but at the same time what I don’t get is… You guys believe in evolution and that we come from…monkeys, right? Someone please explain how this is ofensive in THAT context… You know, the “cientific” one.

    1. Relatively speaking…I believe the issue is a hoodie on a black child labeled monkey! It’s more than just word to the black community. I’m not saying that’s how H&M is using it, but………..they should know better.

        1. I think there is very confusing terminology and it gets increased because my main language is spanish. I will only say that we are, if evolution is real (which i believe it is), related to monkeys.

Grasping at straws, because it is absolutely clear that there is a racial issue here, but you decided to throw evolution as if it was related to the problem.

          1. I understand what you mean now. I brought evolution up because I think it’s the underlying problem. It would be interesting to know if there ever was a publicised picture of this same hoodie being worn by a white kid.
