Watch Kanye West Break Into Tears During Radio 1 Interview

You’ve never seen Ye like this before.

Fresh off his blazing performance at the BRIT Awards, Kanye West is making his promo rounds and stopped by BBC Radio 1 to chat with Zane Lowe. Like many of his interviews, Ye’s last chat with the radio host in September 2013 was a memorable one with responses that only Kanye would dish. However, his latest visit on Thursday (February 26) will likely be remembered for one other reason: Kanye breaks into tears mid-interview.

Ye’s talk with Lowe is a long one, hitting almost 45-minutes of chatter about his upcoming album, collaboration with Paul McCartney and partnership with Adidas. And yet, the most startling moment of the interview is when West takes a trip down memory lane to talk about the last time he saw his friend Louise Wilson, a former professor at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, who passed away in 2014.

Recalling a dinner he had with Wilson in London, West says he thinks she knew she was going to pass away and wanted to give the rapper some advice about never settling for mediocrity.

I didn’t know we were gonna lose her. She told me, she said, ‘Thank you for the times where we came to performances, and this has really meant a lot to me.’ She would … [begins to cry]

Lowe gave West a minute to collect himself, before the hip hop heavyweight walked off set and paused the interview. Watch Ye’s emotional moment unfold around the 26:00 minute mark in the video below.
