TLC’s Chilli is under fire for her comments on the Black Lives Matter movement.
TLC are making the promotional rounds right now to shed light on their final self-titled studio album. They just released a song titled “Way Back” that features Snoop Dogg, as well as one titled “Haters.” But their new music is taking a backseat to comments Chilli made when asked about the Black Lives Matter movement.
“For me, all lives matter… because there is a time when different groups are targeted for different things,” she said. “I just think that, just the whole, what happened, police brutality against these young black boys – stuff like that. All of that kind of stuff is wrong… even if it was a caucasian teen kid that this was happening to. It’s just not right, and you know, some people take that authoritative position and go crazy with it obviously.”
As the Huffington Post points out, yes, all live smatter, but the Black Lives Matter movement is “trying to highlight that there is demonstrable evidence that black lives matter less than white lives to the criminal justice system (and the American government as a whole).” It’s important to understand that there is a divide.
