Ruby Rose Directs And Stars In The Veronicas’ “On Your Side” Short Film
Real-life couple Ruby Rose and Jessica Origliasso embrace their rocky relationship in The Veronicas’ latest visual.
UPDATE // NOVEMBER 17:
The Veronicas‘ first narrative-based music video plays out as a passionate love affair between real-life couple Ruby Rose and Jessica Origliasso. It details the blossoming of a fiery relationship that’s punctured by drug addiction and betrayal.
“When I first heard the song, I was drawn to the lyrics. Some songs tell the first chapter of a story; others only tell the last, but here, I was listening to a full narrative of someone’s sincere experience with love,” Rose said in a statement about the video. “It stood out to me, and like any great narrative, [I] wanted to know what was going to happen next… The only thing is I threw out the original concept for the the night before shooting, when I realized how many times they had used cars in previous videos. I wrote the treatment for what stands as the video today as an 11th hour revision.”
The Ollipop and Freddy Haggstam-produced song serves as the second single off The Veronicas’ forthcoming studio album which sees inspiration from Kylie Minogue and Grimes.
“Lisa and I have always been drawn to unconventional and honest story telling through our music,” Jessica said in a statement. “Ruby brought this to the forefront in our video for ‘On Your Side. The video shares a story between Ruby’s character and mine. It’s a true to life look at the passion and protection of two people falling in love and, ultimately, a love that cannot be broken.”
EARLIER // OCTOBER 13:
They stay friends with their ex-boyfriends.
Earlier this week, The Veronicas posted a not-so-cryptic Tweet alluding a new single was on the way, and indeed it was. The song is titled “On Your Side,” and is about wishing your former lover happiness despite the terrible darkness that comes with heartbreak. Impossible… but not for The Veronicas!
“I am friends with all my exes, I Skype with them almost weekly and chat most days,” Jessica Origliasso said. “Being someone who travels a lot, I don’t run the risk of running into them that often with their new girlfriend.”
“We poured our hearts into that song but you never really know how it’s going to be received and the fact it went No. 1 is a reflection of how incredible our fans and the people around us are,” Jess continued.
The girls are nominated for three ARIA Awards for “In My Blood,” including Best Group, Song Of The Year and Best Pop Release. Let’s see what noms they can rack up for the tropical-tinged “On Your Side,” which should perform quite swimmingly on U.S. radio.
Depending what country you’re in, the entire song could be available now. The one-minute teaser below is for all.
