The iTunes Elephant In The Room

"Work *****"

That is a screen capture of the post I wrote the day “Work *****” debuted. I was ready to publish the story that it claimed the number one spot on iTunes in the U.S., but the moment never came. I kept checking the charts for days ready for it to get its coveted first place position, but instead I watched it slip from number two (behind Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” to #3… #4… (it fell to #8 but currently back to #6).

Yes, the song is still kicking *** and in no way a flop. It was #1 in over 35 countries and gets over a million plays on Vevo a day, but it seems the Queen can’t compete with a girl licking a sledge hammer in the states. Like… wut?

Over the last few years, Britney’s been able to minimally promote her music and still garner big results on the charts, but these days she’s up against artists that heavily promote their new work through iTunes concerts, VMA performances and in depth interviews. Meanwhile, “Work *****” wasn’t even mentioned on Good Morning America.

Unless something big goes down, the WB music video is the song’s last chance to get that number one. Then again, there’s something refreshing about homegirl having no ***** left to give about number ones and charts, but maybe we can find a happy medium.

Now go spend some money *****.
