Swift says Charli XCX is one of the “greatest songwriters.” Plus, SNL poked fun of her on their kick-off episode this weekend.
The beat goes on and on and on and on and…
Taylor Swift invited Charli XCX on stage during her second sold-out 1989 show in Toronto on Saturday (Oct. 2) following Keith Urban’s surprise appearance the night before.
Swift told the audience, “Toronto, do you remember when we were talking earlier and I said if you keep this level of enthusiasm… Vance Joy, Shawn Mendes and I will not be the last artist you see on this stage. You’ve really held up your end of the deal, haven’t you Toronto. You’ve been crazy! So I think it’s time you have a special guest,” she teases before bringing Charli XCX on stage.
She added, “In my opinion I’m about to bring out one of the greatest songwriters that we have going for us right now. She’s unbelievable, she’s about to perform her number one smash ‘Boom Clap.’ Charli XCX is here Toronto!”
After the show, the girls traded a few words with one another. Swift Tweeted, “I LOVE YOU @charli_xcx !!! #boomclap #1989TourToronto.” XCX responded: “thank u so much for having me in Toronto tonight @taylorswift13 it was fuuuun.”
Swift was also the target of a Saturday Night Live skit on Saturday (Oct. 3), poking fun at her massive celebrity influence and girl group of friends appropriately labeled “The Squad.”
