It’s incredible to think 2014’s version of singing on the street for recognition is uploading your work to YouTube. The social media viewing platform is home to thousands of singers, and you’re lucky if you make it.
Troye Sivan is one of those. He’s successfully transitioning from a familiar sound you might’ve stumbled upon online to a mainstream pop force to be reckoned with.
His YouTube channel has 3 million+ followers and his clips have accumulated 91.4 million views. He announced this summer he signed a deal with EMI Australia and would release a five-song EP, titled “TRXYE,” out August 15 with the song, “Happy Little Pill” making the first-single cut.
Thanks to the success of his newly released song, the EP is number one on iTunes and has soared to the top of iTunes charts around the world.

He wrote on his Tumblr of the release:
“I wrote this song during a bit of a rough time for someone super close to me, and for myself, and it still means as much to me as the day i wrote it, and i’m still as in love with it as the day i wrote it (which is rare for me!!). I couldn’t be prouder to be giving it to you guys today :’) Thanks for sticking around for so long, for supporting me and other online talent, and for now listening! I have the best and craziest and most committed audience in the world, and I love you all endlessly.”

Rumor has it it’s about his boyfriend. I haven’t personally asked Troye about his sexuality, though. For another time.
