Judge Grants Five-Year Restraining Order; Sam Lutfi Must Stay Away From Britney

Sam Lutfi’s involvement in the #FreeBritney campaign amounted to a new restraining order.

A judge granted Team Britney’s request for a restraining order against Sam Lutfi at a hearing held in the L.A. County Superior Court on Thursday (June 13), TMZ reports. The permanent extension happened several weeks after a temporary one was put into effect. Lutfi was at the meeting, however Britney was not. The judge felt there was enough of a threat on Lutfi’s part to grant a five-year order – he must stay away from Britney, her immediate family, sons, and is barred from making disparaging comments about her. Lutfi attempted to bribe Lynne Spears, sent her money, asked Britney fans to “raise hell” and shared a photo of a trunk in his possession of personal items of Britney’s.

Though Britney didn’t personally appear at this hearing, she did show up to her most-recent status hearing regarding the conservatorship. She reportedly told the judge the rumors of her being held against her will at a mental health facility and given medication she didn’t want to take were true, wants out of the conservatorship, and asked for more personal freedoms, like having a smart phone. Since then, Britney has been active on Instagram and pictured with an iPhone on multiple occasions. Britney’s statements inspired the judge to order a mental health evaluation and an internal investigation on the conservatorship. Meanwhile, Jamie Spears is working on extending the conservatorship into three more states outside of California, including Louisiana, Florida and Hawaii.

The smart phone access is important in trying to understand Britney in 2019. It seems to make way for more posts on her Instagram. Britney’s feed is a curious, wondrous hub of inspirational quotes and unfiltered videos. It’s a wild peek at some facet of the pop star’s personal life. At times it’s bizarre, but also intimately personal. The Glory singer recently shared photos from her vacation in Miami with boyfriend Sam Asghari after a couple of posts accusing the paparazzi of editing her photos to make her larger.

On the day of the restraining order hearing, Britney posted a video showing off her newly-organized closet (she says the word “nighties,” not ’90s btw) and a picture of the ocean she took in Hawaii. The caption is a roller coaster – she explains why her favorite color is blue, then says red is actually her favorite color in that moment. We love a plot twist.

2019 is a wild year in the world of Britney, and I don’t know how to end any of her posts other than… stay tuned…

Britney Granted A Restraining Order Against Sam Lutfi

The pop star’s past re-emerges amid the Free Britney movement.

Britney Spears and Sam Lutfi have a tumultuous public history together. Lutfi was one of a handful of people in close proximity with Britney at the time of her public breakdown in 2007–2008. In Lynne Spears’ book, Through The Storm, she claims Lutfi drugged her daughter and cut Britney’s phone lines so no one could communicate with her. After a years’ long defamation legal battle between Lutfi and the singer’s legal representation, both parties finally reached a settlement, though what exactly transpired is unclear. However, Lutfi has resurfaced from a distance in the singer’s life, so her family filed an urgent motion asking a judge to grant a new restraining order against him. This would not be the first instance Britney’s team has enacted a restraining order against Lutfi.

UPDATE: The restraining order was granted – it protects Britney, her two sons, Lynne and Jamie Spears.

Lutfi’s attorney, Marc S. Gans, had this to say: “We feel this is overly broad and violates Mr. Lutfi’s constitutional rights,” Gans said. “This is only temporary and we look forward to arguing the matter more fully at the hearing for a more permanent restraining order on May 28th.”

Why a restraining order?

Lynne Spears, who recently lawyered up in a bid to learn more about the conservatorship, received what she calls “unhinged” messages from Lutfi recently. The docs say he sent “threatening texts to Ms. Spears’ family, he has leaked confidential information and is considering releasing more of Ms. Spears (actual and fabricated) private information.”

The Blast published his lengthy letter. In it, Lutfi urges Lynne to “disrupt and take over” the conservatorship, and asks repeatedly that she respond to him. He also sent her $1000 – Lynne reversed the transaction and ask him to cease contact. You can read Lutfi’s full letter to Lynne here.

In the message, Lutfi wrote: “You are the one that’s been breaking your back for your children your entire life and yet you are still having to answer to people that have done nothing for your family yet they are in charge.”

He also said, “You need to stop allowing anyone to treat you poorly. Lou lives like a queen and does what she wants. You how how poorly she speaks about you behind your back,” adding, “I want to just be able to provide you all the resources that you’ll need for this transition if that is the plan. Everything from counsel to $.”

According to court docs, Lutfi’s recent actions could have a severe detrimental affect on Britney’s psyche, hence the move to get a restraining order, which would in theory “prevent future harm and further psychological trauma.” It would also require him to not have any contact with Britney or her family and must stay 200 yards or more away from them. The docs say he fired up fans amid the Free Britney movement, asking them to “raise hell” regarding the conservatorship.

It’s worth mentioning TMZ claims Britney does not have a smart phone with access to the Internet, so it’s unclear if she is aware of his recent actions.

“Shortly after Ms. Spears checked herself into a mental health facility, Lutfi began a new campaign of harassment against Ms. Spears and her family,” the filing claims. “In the last week alone, Mr. Lutfi has made dozens of disparaging and threatening comments on social media and in interviews.”

The request for a restraining order follows a message posted on Britney’s Instagram claiming a series of emails Lutfi allegedly leaked are fake and to not believe everything you read.

The restraining order was filed after Lynne received messages from Lutfi, but it was filed on behalf of Britney’s legal representation. It’s unclear if Lynne’s request to have a legal presence at Friday’s status hearing and the RTO have any connection. Lutfi might be one reason Britney’s lawyers cite why the conservatorship should stay as is.

The press

It’s been interesting to watch how the media has handled news surrounding Britney, her mental health stay and the conservatorship. It appears some outlets benefit more than others by reporting a certain angle. Radar Online published a new report painting Lynne as an opportunist by seeking legal counsel in a bid to give Britney a voice at Friday’s status hearing.

“Lynne isn’t looking out for her best interests,” the source explained. “[Britney] believes Lynne is looking out for herself.”

It’s worth mentioning Lynne is currently residing with Britney in LA ahead of the hearing on Friday.

TMZ says there is extreme conflict between Lynne and dad Jamie.
