Queen! Madonna’s New Album ‘Madame X’ Debuts At No. 1

‘Madame X’ takes the top spot.

UPDATE: It’s official! Madonna’s new album is No. 1 on the Billboard 200, giving the Queen of Pop her ninth No. 1 of her career.

She sold a total of 95,000 equivalent album units. Madonna has the second-most No. 1 albums of her career (Barbra Streisand leads the pack with 11).

Despite one major music review publication eviscerating Madonna’s latest release, it’s on track to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Thanks to a tour bundling deal, Madame X will open with 90-100k sales plus streaming, according to an estimate from Hits Daily Double. This marks her first No. 1 since 2012’s MDNA.

There’s a lot to absorb in the world of Madonna at the moment. She’s down to film a music video for “Faz Gostoso,” featuring Anitta, if she had the budget. However, there’s a video for “God Control” on the way.

Madonna’s “God Control” Music Video Looks Controversial

When disco turns deadly.

Madonna needs coin to make a music video for her Anitta-assisted banger, “Faz Gostoso” because she’s already filmed music videos for the album’s selected singles. That includes one for standout track, “God Control,” a disco-tinged tune that finds the singer begging the listener to “wake up.” It’s a politically and socially charged song disguised with a vibrant beat and colorful production gymnastics crafted by Mike Dean and Mirwais, but the lyrics are quite dark.

In the teaser for the forthcoming video, Madonna can be seen enjoying a wild night out at a club, but she offers a glimpse at the clip’s harrowing ending when a gunman rains bullets on party-goers. It will inevitably rock the boat.

No word yet on when the “God Control” video premieres, however Madonna said it’s on the way.
