New Music Friday: Ed Sheeran, Bebe Rexha, Becky G, Sabrina Carpenter, BANKS And More

Happy New Music Friday!

Every Friday, an avalanche of new music stampedes digital culture. It’s a full-time job to keep up with it (trust), so BreatheHeavy puts together a weekly cheat sheet for your convenience. Here are a handful of new tunes worth your undivided attention. After that, you’re on your own!

Ed Sheeran – No. 6 Collaborations Project (Album)

Ed Sheeran’s star-studded new album is jam-packed with incredible collaborations (hence the title heh). It features Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Eminem, 50 Cent, H.E.R., YEBBA, Skrillex, Ella Mai, Chris Stapleton, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber and many more. Some of the immediate standouts include “I Don’t Want Your Money,” and “Antisocial.” Normally I’m not a huge fan of collaborations, but the songwriting on No. 6 is incredible, the production even more so and because the features are intentional, it works. The songs together feel cohesive but each shine in their own right.

Jax Jones & Bebe Rexha – “Harder” (Song)

Jax Jones cooked up infectious, electro-tinged production for Bebe Rexha to croon over. On their new collab together, “Harder,” the songstress sings about l-o-v-e. “When you think you’ve done enough, can you love me harder,” she purrs. “Put in work and don’t give up. Can you love me harder. ‘Cause you know I need that.” It features some production gymnastics that I think we’re all sick of, like a warbly helium voice, but there’s no denying “Harder” is catchy.

Becky G & Myke Towers – “Dollar” (Video)

Becky G is one of the hardest working women in the game (fight me). She puts out new music like it’s nobody’s business. Recently, Becky teamed up with Anitta on “Banana,” dropped a Spanish remix of her Kane Brown duet, “Lost In The Middle,” a collab with Maluma, a banger with Digital Farm Animals and Rvssian and hopped on a re-working of “A Whole New World” with Zayn from Disney’s Aladdin soundtrack. The pop star continues her hot streak with “Dollar.” The Spanish-language bop features an entrancing beat and a verse that’ll embed itself in your brain for hours.

BANKS – III (Album)

BANKS doubles down on the dark pop esthetic with her new album, III. The 13-track collection is brimming with transformative and vulnerable cuts about the singer’s personal pain and triumphs. She taunts the listener with synth-heavy production and brooding beats. The lead single, “Gimme,” features a stuttering beat and shimmering vocals. It’s upbeat, but doesn’t stray too far from the anti-pop vibe that shines on some of the other tracks, like “Alaska” and “Stroke.” If you need to cool off this summer, give III a listen:

Sabrina Carpenter – “I’m Fakin” (Song)

You know when you really like someone, but they piss you off, so you’re stuck in this place of wanting distance and making up? Yeah, I don’t know either, but Sabrina sings about that dissonance in her new song, “I’m Fakin.” The latest release off her forthcoming album, Singular: Act II is sunny on the surface, but after dissecting the lyrics it’s pretty sad. “I roll my eyes. You check your phone / You say I’m overly dramatic, and I know,” she sings. “I’m slamming the door, but I’m staying / I make up my mind then I change it. It’s you that I want when we’re breaking. Every time I tell you that we’re done I’m faking.”

FYI there’s yet another “Old Town Road” remix out ugh:

Ed Sheeran Taps Camila Cabello & Cardi B For New Song “South Of The Border”: Listen

Ed Sheeran’s mixtape is star-studded.

Ed just dropped the No.6 Collaborations Project, and it’s jam-packed. It features collaborations with Camila Cabello and Cardi B (on the same song), Travis Scott, Eminem & 50 Cent, Stormzy, Skrillex, H.E.R., and many more.

This post is highlighting Camila and Cardi’s track together, because it seemingly comes out of left-field (in a good way). It’s also worth noting that Taylor Swift is not included (not starting drama, just saying).

On it, Ed sings over tribal-tinged production and a stomping beat. Camila’s verse is something she carefully crafted with Ed during a studio session in Nashville. She sings in Spanish and English, showing off a sugary falsetto and soaring vocal. As for Cardi, she boasts an untouchable confidence in her verse.

No. 6 also contains previously released songs “I Don’t Care” with Justin Bieber and “Cross Me” featuring Chance the Rapper and PnB Rock.

this is probably one of the most surreal things I’ve ever seen, Ed’s team sent me this from our session in Nashville when we were writing my verse for south of the border, I just saw it in the car and had this weird surreal feeling of being 13 years old listening to “be like you” and “autumn leaves” and “fall”- this guy right here is one of the most meaningful artists in my life and 13 year old me would never believe this video. I know we’re friends now so sorry for the not playing cool moment, but genuinely, this is a sick full circle, special moment for me, being on a song with an artist that’s meant so ******* much to me. I have so many memories with these man’s songs. And he’s such a lovely person!!! I’m just emotional. ? life is wild. Dreams are wild. I’m so in awe of how things happen and how things you could never imagine can happen. and it’s only more of a pleasure getting to know you as a person- so kind, genuine, and awesome. I’m about to JAM this album right now cause I haven’t heard the other songs and I’m so excited!!!! Congrats on more amazing music!!! , Love you dude @teddysphotos

Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars And Chris Stapleton Rock Out On New Song “BLOW”: Listen

They’ll blow your mind.

Ed Sheeran’s forthcoming star-studded album, No.6 Collaborations Project, features collabs with some of the industry’s best.

Following “I Don’t Care” with Justin Bieber, “I Don’t Care” featuring Chance The Rapper and PnB Rock and “Beautiful People” featuring Khalid is “BLOW,” featuring Bruno Mars and Chris Stapleton.

The massive rock-pop tune doesn’t attempt to mesh their vocals together in some cringe trio, but instead gives the guys an opportunity to slam a guitar and rock out in their own solo. It’s instantly infectious!

“I’m feelin’ like a bullet jumpin’ out a gun / I’m feelin’ like a winner, I feel like the one,” Ed sings in the opening lines. “You’re doing somethin’ to me, you’re doing somethin’ strange.”

It’s an unexpected gem and deserves a spin! Listen below then leave a comment in Exhale and tell us what you think!

No.6 Collaborations Project arrives July 12.

And while you’re here, listen to a second new release from Ed titled “Best Part Of Me,” featuring YEBBA. It’s a total contrast from “BLOW.” On it, Ed sings about his insecurities over a somber guitar melody. This guy knows how to make impeccable music.

Chris Brown Ed Sheeran Featured Julia Michaels Justin Bieber Meghan Trainor New Music Friday Sabrina Carpenter Songs

New Music Friday: Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Meghan Trainor, Julia Michaels And More

Chris Brown & Justin Bieber – “Don’t Check On Me” (Song)

A lot of Chris Brown’s music is pretty explicit, but he shows a softer side on his Justin Bieber collab, “Don’t Check On Me.” It lands on his newly-released album, Indigo, which also features collaborations from Nicki Minaj, G-Eazy, “H.E.R.,” and more. On it, Chris and JB trade verses about the aftermath from a breakup. “Every heartbreak has its season,” they sing over an Ink-produced beat. It’s co-written alongside producer Poo Bear.

Ed Sheeran & Khalid – “Beautiful People” (Song)

Ed Sheeran just released another new song off his forthcoming album, No.6 Collaborations Project. As the title insinuates, each song is a collab – the latest being “Beautiful People,” featuring Khalid. On it, Ed sings about his worst nightmare: everyone striving for lame looks and material things. “This is my only fear,” Ed croons. “That we become beautiful people.” Elsewhere, he sings: “drop top, designer clothes. Front row at fashion shows / What do you do and who do you know?’” Khalid’s silky vocals shine on his verse, backing up Ed’s tone perfectly.

Ellie Goulding & Juice WRLD – “Hate Me” (Song)

Ellie Goulding’s new song, “Hate Me,” featuring Juice WRLD, sounds like a child’s nursery rhyme spliced with a harrowing EDM-tinged beat. On it, Ellie sings indulges in self-destruction. “Hate me, hate me/Tell me how you hate me/Tell me how I’m trash and you can easily replace me,” she sings over production crafted by Jason Evigan and The Monsters & Strangerz. Ellie also confronts a former lover’s new life, and she hopes it’s not going well. “I bet you don’t kiss her with your eyes closed/I bet you’re still walkin’ on a tightrope,” she sings. “Miss me so much, you’ve been goin’ psycho/You ain’t gotta say it, baby –– I know.”

Meghan Trainor – “Hurt Me” (Song)

As expected, Meghan Trainor’s new tune, “Hurt Me,” is a bop. She graciously gifted Songland with this sparkly gem. “You don’t get to hurt me,” she affirms on the new tune. “No, you were never worth all my energy and just ’cause you’re hurting don’t mean you get to hurt me.” It’s unclear when Meghan’s new album will arrive, but as long as she continues to release these guilty pleasures… I’m good.

Julia Michaels – “Hurt Again” (Song)

If anyone knows how to write a song that’ll get instantly stuck in your head, it’s Julia Michaels. Her new tune, “Hurt Again,” lands on the forthcoming record, Inner Monologue Part 2. On the Ian Kirkpatrick-produced tune, Julia sings about finally being ready to open up to love again. “Ready to be hurt again,” she sings over a sticky beat and strings. “You remind me of my past, that’s how I know that this won’t last.” Love can hurt, but it’s part of the human experience, and Miss Michaels captures that vulnerability in a bottle.

Sabrina Carpenter – “In My Bed” (Video)

Sabrina Carpenter ventures off into a wondrous world in her new video for “In My Bed.” She starts out casually chilling in her pink-princess themed bedroom when she suddenly elevates into the absurd. She rocks freaky teddy bear eyes, sings as a self-trio and gets locked up in an insane asylum while business men dressed in suits awkwardly dance behind her. I’m not sure what it all means, but I’m here for it.

VVAVES and Iggy Azalea – “Boys Like You” (Song)

Iggy doesn’t collaborate with artists too often, so I knew right away VVAVES’ new song “Boys Like You” was special. An icy EDM beat soundtracks VVAVES vocals before a haunting trap beat slides in to assist Iggy’s verse. The title of the track is misleading, cause they sing about f–kboys, which I appreciate. Music doesn’t alienate, even against douchebags.

Devin Rodriguez – ‘Bittersweet’ (Album)

BreatheHeavy recently featured Devin’s music in our Introducing profile – you can read that here. Today, the rising singer-songwriter dropped his new album, Bittersweet, and it’s jam-packed with brooding bops. On the 9-track LP, Devin sings about the shadowy side of love on “Thought I Knew U Better,” desire for romance on “All I Really Want Is U” and exudes confidence on “Ur Man.” Our New Music Friday posts usually shines light on the biggies, but give this gem a spin:

Ed Sheeran & Chance The Rapper, PnB Rock – “Cross”

Ed Sheeran is releasing a project full of collaborations in July, appropriately titled No.6 Collaborations Project (following No. 5). His latest creation is “Cross,” featuring Chance the Rapper and PnB Rock. As all Ed Sheeran songs are, it’s gloriously catchy, but instead of relying on live instrumentation, Ed incorporates a R&B beat that’s reminiscent of something off the Black Panther soundtrack. Prepare for “Cross” to live in your brain this weekend:

Ally Brooke featuring A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie – “Lips Don’t Lie” (Video)

Every time I see a new tune from Ally Brooke, I JUMP. She’s released a couple of very catchy pop tunes this year, and her latest is no exception. “Lips Don’t Lie,” featuring A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, is a tango-tinged tune that’s carefully crafted to stick around – you’ll be singing the la la la’s and Ally’s infectious chorus as soon as the three-minute track concludes. Shakira’s hips are somewhere fuming.

5 Seconds Of Summer – “Easier” (Video)

5SOS doesn’t know how to release a bad song. “Youngblood” was one of my favorite releases in 2018, and their latest, “Easier,” could rival that this year. On it, frontman Luke Hemmings questions whether he should leave or stay in a relationship that’s no bueno. It’s got an all-star team of hit-makers behind it; Andrew Watt, Louis Bell and Charlie Puth produced it (Charlie’s fingerprints are all over this). There’s also a fiery video for it:

BANKS – “Gimme” (Video)

BANKS’ synth-heavy new song is a gem. The singer’s subdued vocals slink over stuttering production and an infrequent pound of the bass. “’Gimme’ is a song about getting what you want,” Banks said of the ominous new tune. “It’s about knowing what you deserve, saying it out loud, and demanding it with no apologies. I’m ready to release this into the world and begin a new chapter.” There’s also a low-lit visual out:

New Music Friday: Madonna, Lana Del Rey, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Zayn, Carly Rae Jepsen, Becky G And More

Happy New Music Friday!

First off, thank you to all of the readers who have subscribed to BreatheHeavy RX. We reached our first-month goal in just a few days after launching! #BLESSDT. If you haven’t signed up yet, give our free 7-day trial a test run – you won’t regret it!

Let’s get into it…

Madonna featuring Quavo – “Future” (Song)

Madonna’s new song “Future” is more of a cautionary tale. In it, the queen of pop puts small-minded dumb dumbs on blast for their archaic thinking. “Not everyone is coming to the future, not everyone is learning from the past,” Madonna sings over a tropical beat crafted by frequent collaborator, Diplo. “Not everyone can come into the future, not everyone that’s here is gonna last.” “Future” is not my cup of tea, but I can appreciate that it sounds unlike anything else off Madame X; versatility is important.

Lana Del Rey – “Doin Time” (Sublime Cover)

Lana knows fans are thirsty for her new album, Norman F–king Rockwell, so she threw us a bone by covering Sublime’s “Doin Time,” which will be featured in an upcoming documentary about the band. Lana’s syrupy vocals drip over live instrumentation / production crafted by Happy Perez and Andrew Watt. Total summer vibes.

Justin Bieber & Ed Sheeran – “I Don’t Care” (Music Video)

This is what happens when you have lots of money and a green screen:

Carly Rae Jepsen – ‘Dedicated’ (Album)

BreatheHeavy has a review for Carly Rae Jepsen’s new album, Dedicated, on the way, so we’ll withhold our thoughts on it for now. However, definitely give it a play from start to finish (there’s also a new music video for “Too Much”):

Zayn & Becky G – “Un Mundo Ideal” (Aladdin Soundtrack)

Zayn and Zhavia already released a duet of this last week in English, but Disney tapped Becky G for a bilingual version of it (money moves), and it’s even more magical. Zayn and Becky’s vocals weave in and out through grand, cinematic production. I didn’t expect Jasmine to start singing in Spanish, but iconic stories like Aladdin know no boundaries.

Justin Bieber And Ed Sheeran Have A Hit On Their Hands With “I Don’t Care”: Listen

Song of the summer contender.

Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran have collaborated on a new song titled “I Don’t Care,” and it will probably sit atop the Hot 100 for the foreseeable future. The track lands on the soundtrack for the Angry Birds movie.

Both artists are powerful players in terms of streams, so combined they’ll definitely storm the charts. You may recall Ed Sheeran co-wrote Bieber’s Purpose ballad, “Love Yourself,” which hit No. 1. No doubt the two have cooked up another hit together.

“I Don’t Care” kicks off with a couple of verses from Sheeran, who builds up momentum before handing the baton to Bieber to show off some vocal gymnastics (it’s been a minute since we’ve heard Bieber actually try and sing, so this is refreshing).

“‘Cause I don’t care when I’m with my baby, yeah / All the bad things disappear,” Sheeran sings over a stuttering clap and tropical beat. “And you’re making me feel I like maybe I am somebody.”

Bieber chimes in: “I can deal with the bad nights when I’m with my baby, yeah/’Cause I don’t care/As long as you hold me near/You can take me anywhere/And you’re making me feel like I’m loved by somebody/I can deal with the bad nights when I’m with my baby, yeah.”

Sheeran is a masterful songwriter, so it’s no surprise “I Don’t Care” is carefully crafted to takeover, and mark my words… it will.

After his performance with Ariana Grande at Coachella, JB said his album was coming soon, but reports after circulated claiming that announcement was premature – it’s still a year or more away. This should tie you over in the mean time…

Lil Dicky’s Star Studded “Earth” Collab Is Bananas (Bieber, Ari, Miley, Katy & More)

Featuring Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Halsey, Shawn Mendes, Snoop Dogg, Rita Ora, Katy Perry, Zac Brown, Brendon Urie, Wiz Khalifa, Charlie Puth, Hailey Steinfeld, Ed Sheeran, Adam Levine, Sia, John Legend, Backstreet Boys, Kevin Hart. Miguel, Lil Yachty, Meghan Trainor, Tory Lanez, John Legend, Bad Bunny, PSY, and Benny Blanco.

Did I expect to hear Justin Bieber sing in auto-tune as a baboon questioning why he has a big ****? Or for Ariana Grande to croon as a zebra, wondering whether she’s black or white (a long running Internet debate)? Absolutely not, but I’m #living for this.

The song is called “Earth.” Rapper Lil Dicky managed to get an all-star team of singers to participate for the track to support Leonardo DiCaprio’s efforts in raising awareness about the environment. Less eloquently put: humans are ravaging the planet passed the point of repair, but maybe a Bieber x Ariana x Katy song can help.
