Steve Aoki Tells BreatheHeavy On Upcoming Vocal Surgery: It Must Be Done
Aoki says he’ll be freaked out before going under.
Days after dropping his new album, “Neon Future II,” superstar producer/DJ Steve Aoki confirms he must have surgery to fix a nodule on his vocal cord.
The celebration of his latest release was cut short when doctors told Aoki he must undergo surgery, or they fear he may lose his voice altogether.
“It’s hard, but it has to be done,” Aoki told BreatheHeavy.com during our interview on Friday. “Laying down before I go under… I’ll be freaked out, but it has to be done or else I’ll miss out more and I won’t be able to use my voice at all.”
The Las Vegas Hakkasan resident posted a heart-felt video message to his fans on Facebook revealing he must cancel several shows as well.

“I thought I could fix it without having any surgery,” he told BH, “but the doctor that I saw said there’s no chance, and he showed me pictures, and he said ‘there’s just no way.’ It is what it is.”
Keep an eye out for BreatheHeavy’s entire interview with Aoki out Tuesday, May 19, where he reveals his perspective on time and reality, his love of science fiction, who he’d like to work with, songs he’s currently listening to, if we’ll ever get a Neon Future X and whether he’d ever record a song with Britney Spears.
