A celebrity photographer has accused Britney Spears’ bodyguards of shooting him with a pellet gun outside a house in Malibu.
But Spears and her security staff have denied any knowledge of the incident.
“Britney didn’t know anything about it. She had nothing to do with it,” Spears’ publicist Nicole King said today.
Asked whether the singer’s security was involved, King said: “Oh no!”
Snapper Brad Diaz was wounded by a pellet gun while standing with about a dozen other photographers near a beachside California pad regularly attended by the pregnant pop princess.
Mr Diaz was staking out the rumoured venue of Spears’ baby shower when he was clipped in the left leg.
He told The Sun newspaper security staff for the 23-year-old singer had fired the pellet.
“I can’t believe it. I was on a public street,” he was quoted as saying.
Mr Diaz, who is threatening to sue for “millions”, called the police but Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Steve Smith said it was unclear who fired the pellet or whether Spears was present at the time.
He said Mr Diaz may have been too far away to have been hit from the home.
“It could’ve been somebody driving by, walking by,” Lt Smith told AP.
“We have no idea where it came from.”
Lt Smith would not identify the home’s owner.
Mr Diaz was taken to hospital where doctors reportedly said the pellet was embedded too deep to remove.
“If there’s anything below minor, that’s what the injury was,” Lt Smith said of Mr Diaz’s injury.
