It’s a hit.
Shawn Mendes’ No. 1 album Illuminate was already brimming with hits, but the 18-year-old has another one in store for us.
It’s titled “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back,” an upbeat acoustic ditty about losing all inhibition.
“Maybe I should stop and start confessing,” he sings over a guitar melody and frenetic claps. “Oh I’ve been shaking / I love it when you go crazy / You take all my inhibitions / Baby there’s nothing holding me back.” Then he shows off his vocal game and elevates the song to new heights. “Cause if we lost our minds and we took it way too far I know we’d be alright / No we would be alright if you were by my side and we stumbled in the dark. I know we’d be alright.”
The news comes on the heels of his Billboard Music Awards nominations, including Top Artist, Top Male Artist and Top Social Artist. At the end of the month, Shawn will kick off the second leg of his Illuminate tour in Glasgow. Looks like he’ll have a new hit to play for the crowd.
