Selena Gomez tearfully accepts Billboard’s Woman of the Year award.

It’s quite a responsibility to own the title Woman of the Year, but if anyone deserves it this year, it’s Selena. The pop star overcame a life threatening health scare, and if it weren’t for her best friend, Francia Raisa, she could have died.

Raisa introduced her famous friend, calling Selena “my biggest champion and my biggest cheerleader, and I hers.”

Gomez returned the kind words. “To be honest, I think Francia should be getting this award because she saved my life,” the singer began. “I would like to thank my amazing team and family because they stuck with me through some really hard times.”

Selena continued, “I couldn’t be more grateful for the position that I’ve been given in my career. I want people to know I respect the platform I have deeply…I’ve never felt more proud to be a woman in this industry. I am so grateful for all the older women who have helped us up.”

Gomez also wants to repay the world for its unwavering support. How you ask? By recording  she plans on making “an epic album.” Sounds like a plan, SG!
