Rare is her revival.

Selena Gomez hopped on social media last week and basically begged fans to buy/stream her new album Rare in an effort to get it to #1. She looked a little silly, but it worked.

Rare debuts atop the Billboard 200 chart with 112,000 equivalent album units (53,000 in physical album sales), giving Selena her third #1 album.

She almost missed it. Roddy Ricch’s Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial came in just behind Rare with 110,000 in sales plus streaming.

Gomez didn’t boost sales with a ticket bundle option, which typically guarantees an artist of her stature a #1.

“It’s officially out! I was a bit embarrassed asking so often for you to stream or buy my album,” Gomez said on Instagram. “It felt inauthentic. Thank YOU so much for making something so personal to me be a moment I’ll never forget. All I truly desire is for you all to enjoy the music and spread the love.”

  1. More like Survival but okay haha. Jokes aside…the album shows growth and its decent. Vulnerable, Ring and Cut you off should be her next singles. Since shes already “recording” i wouldnt be mad if she released another album by the end of this year. I bet she will….
