Selena Gomez sits at a piano in this stripped clip of “Lose You To Love Me.”

Gomez’s power ballad topped the Hot 100 upon its release – something “Yummy” failed to do – and breathed more life into it today with an alternate release.

The somber piano ballad details Selena’s rise from the ashes following the trauma from her vicious breakup with Justin Bieber.

“You promised the world and I fell for it / I put you first and you adored it,” she sings. “You got off on the hurting when it wasn’t yours.” Eventually, a choir sings in unison before the twinkly piano keys fade into grey.

Gomez co-wrote it with frequent collaborators, Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter (Revival), Mattias Larsson and Robin Fredriksson. Matttman & Robin and FINNEAS handled the production.

The video was also shot on an iPhone (for real).

  1. I love her but I honestly think she waited too long. I hope I’m wrong though. If they do everything right and pull off a nice rollout, she’s gonna slay for sure.

  2. Getting Blackout vibes from the first two promos! Didn’t she scrap her follow up to Revival after Bad Liar/Fetish flopped? She has a fan base and she may not be as successful as Ariana but I think it will keep her afloat. This could end up being second or third best pop album this year.

  3. It’s good. But I’m a little underwhelmed. 😪And it’s been years and she’s still not done singing about Justin? I mean, how long is it gotta take for her to move on. She introduced this single saying its everything that happened since Revival. But the entire lyrics isn’t addressing or about “everything”. It wasn’t even talking about hardships in general. The lyrics all allude to heartbreak. Losing your love so you could love yourself. It’s basically a breakup anthem. I’m not hating. I’m just saying. I love Selena but this narrative is tired af.

    1. I see your point, we were never truly given that massive breakup anthem but maybe that’s just her way of dealing with things? To be fair, she’s gone through so much worse with her health and living with Lupus than any breakup could ever be so maybe that has put things into perspective for her?

    1. It’s definitely not about any of those. It’s about a heartbreak. There’s a line about the guy moving on after 2 months or something. “Replaced us after 2 months” something like that.

Also, Jordan… I love you, ok? 😘 But like you’ve gotta be kidding me if you think it’s about The Weeknd. I don’t she was that broken about their breakup cause remember she instantly got back together with Justin right after their breakup. So we can really tell that Bieber WAS and probably IS the love of her life a.k.a. her ‘the one that got away’. So it would make sense for her to make another (yet again) song about him. Also her stans on Twitter are all aware that it is about Justin. They’re also salty against people (like me) who are not ok with yet again another Justin song. They’re like “how is it okay for Justin to create an entire album about her but its not okay for her to make a song about him?” They’re obvi talking about Justin’s JOURNALS album but that was years ago like 2013 or 2014 or something. My issue is we’re onto 2019 and we’re still hearing Justin songs from Selena. Justin stopped singing about her probably since 2016. I’m so tired of thiiis. 😩 I love her but UGHHHHHHHHHH.

  4. It’s about Justin, for sure. I was kinda expecting that marketing wise because some months ago there was a huge thread on twitter about their toxic relationship and how she survived to that mess, with a lot of people reacting to it and giving opinions. No surprise to capitalise on that. Like the song tho, but hope she comes with a BOP next time.

  5. She might not have an incredible voice, but like not everyone does, and if everyone was famous for having an amazing voice, it would be boring. I’ll give it to her for always being able to give a good emotional performance, and having a good team of songwriters she works with. She’s got good ballads.

  6. I was at the supermarket just a few minutes ago and the song was playing on the radio (already!) and it caught me off guard, it sounds so good and it gave me a nice feeling listening to it right there and then, coming out of the blue. That definitely makes it a hit in my eyes (ears).
