Rihanna’s year is just beginning.

It might feel like she never left, with the dozen magazine covers, headline-grabbing red carpet looks and CNN-worthy Instagram comeback, but considering that was during a musical hiatus Robyn Rihanna Fenty is about to be everywhere.

The reigning Queen of Folk is on the cover of i-D magazine’s annual music issue and looks absolutely stunning, but that pretty much goes without saying when it comes to Rihanna nowadays.

Unlike some of the other covers she has graced in the last year, her look is totally stripped back and somewhat channels the iconic looks of Lauryn Hill and Janet that we saw in the 90s.

Also, whilst Rihanna herself said that “FourFiveSeconds” was the first single from her eighth album many are unsure if the acoustic collaboration with Kanye and Paul McCartney is just a teaser before the campaign officially kicks off and i-D have now described the track as a “pre-release” in the issue’s blurb. So what is it?

While we anticipate Rih’s next move, i-D’s Fashion Director Alastair McKimm had some very nice things to say about the singer and even hailed her the “ultimate icon” of today’s generation. “She really is one of the most creative, talented and inspiring women I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. She’s the ultimate icon of our time.”

From what we’ve seen and heard of the R8 era thus far, it would be easy to say that she’s proving that she doesn’t need to rely on the bells and whistles to be successful. Though, if we know one thing about Rihanna is that she isn’t typical or predictable so, whether or not that is her intention we do know that the whole world is waiting for her next move.

That Rihanna reign just won’t let up!
