Macklemore announces both new album and new baby will drop in 2015.

Until getting dragged into the shade by prolific beef-haver Azealia Banks, 2014 was reasonably low-key for Macklemore (and Ryan Lewis, because whatever.) Sure, they started off the year with a high-profile, Madonna-and-her-cane-assisted Grammy performance marriage ceremony where they gave us the largely amazing, partially patronising equality anthem “Same Love”, but things got pretty quiet in Camp Mack after that.

Until now.

It all kicked off earlier this week, when the Seattle-born rapper sat down with Hot 97 (who else?) to talk race, cultural appropriation and white privilege with a genuinely shocking amount of intelligence, sensitivity and self-awareness. Check it out for yourself, but I for one was impressed, especially when compared to Iggy Azalea’s messy response to the same set of comments:

Okay, so then Friday, taking to Twitter, the thrift-shop enthusiast announced that his fans have plenty more than political discourse to look forward to this year, clarifying that we WILL hear the re-return of the Mack in 2015.

And if that wasn’t enough, yesterday morning he let his followers know that he and fiancé Tricia Davis are expecting a tiny Macklemore! Which is either cute or terrifying depending on how you look at it, I suppose. One way or another the video he posted was entirely adorable and, obviously, they seem ecstatic.

All things considered, it’s going to be a busy year for Macklemore, trading in his semi-retired party-boy ways for fatherhood and pushing out the follow up to his and Ryan Lewis’ Grammy winning LP, “The Heist”.

Am I here for new Macklemore music? Eh, I guess. I had mixed feelings about “The Heist” – the singles didn’t do it for me (maybe because they were unbelievably overplayed) but there were some strong cuts deeper on the record (“Make The Money” slayed and you will deal.) Either way, I’ll be staying tuned for this album, which will presumably either cement the rap/production duo’s place in the industry or push them into obscurity. I have a strong suspicion it’ll be the former. However it all turns out, this certainly isn’t the most exciting upcoming release of 2015 (Brit, Ri and Madge – I’m checking for y’all) but I’ll be keeping one eye on it.

What are you thinking? Excited or nah?
