X Factor judge LA Reid is working with one of the biggest stars in the world, and hopes to sign her to his record label Epic Records after her last contractual album with RCA, according to HollywoodReporter.com.
Former Jive President, Barry Weiss, who chairs Island Def Jam Motown and Universal Republic, is also in the running to nab Britney for his label, who currently represents Justin Bieber, Kanye West and Mariah Carey.
The two are going head-to-head to compete for Britney, who’s estimated to make $3-$5 million per album, and are taking two completely different strategies.
“Reid is using his proximity to Britney to woo her while also offering his counsel and promising to take her career ‘to the next level.’”
“I have a 15-year history with Britney and would love to be reunited with her,” Weiss tells The Hollywood Reporter, who represents a sort of “comfort zone for Britney,” says an insider. “Barry understands how her business is run and the many buffers in place.”
“Larry and Jason will want to go where the money is,” offers one source, who cautions that, after all these years in the business, Britney has developed “a pretty good s–t-detector [where] if LA goes overboard, that could push her away.” Ultimately, says the insider, Brit can be easily swayed but will go where she’s comfortable. Adds another high-ranking executive: “She’s a hot commodity, and that’s a good position to be in.”
Reid recently participated on Bravo’s ‘Watch What Happens’ Plead the Fifth game, and was asked if her perferred Demi or Britney.
“Britney, because she’s hot!”
He continued to praise our girl, noting she’s a tough cookie and says viewers should not underestimate her.
“She’s really good. She’s funny, she’s quick,” He went on to say that while she tends to be use few words, she has “great expressions.”
