Pharrell Williams is trying country music.
The “Happy” singer is taking a page out of Lady Gaga’s book and shifting musical gears to an entirely different genre. Can he pull it off?
The Band Perry confirm they’re collaborating with the famous hit-maker, saying:
“We’re being really crazy about the different collaborations that we’re diving into,” sister Kimberly tells Cody. “We got to hang out with Pharrell a couple weeks ago. He’s like a huge country music fan, and he also really loves what we do with harmony. One thing that we worked on with him was this song where all three of us sing different interwoven vocals on the verse and on the chorus.”
Pharrell’s practicing his country crafting skills on this season’s The Voice. He’s currently mentoring country-soul singer Meghan Linsey, formerly of the duo Steel Magnolia as well as a soulful rock singer named Sawyer Fredericks.
I say go for it, Pharrell. Push those artistic boundaries and give us a beautiful mix of N.E.R.D. drums inside a country jammer with some guitar strings and a couple howls about mama and a red truck (that stereotype, though).
Can it be done? CAN IT?
