"Oops!... I Did It Again" 13-Year Anniversary

“Oops!… I Did It Again” is officially a teenager, celebrating its 13th anniversary today.

The album launched May 16, 2000. It soared to top the top of the Billboard 200, selling 1,319,000 units in its first week, breaking the previous SoundScan record for the highest debut-week album sales by a solo artist (Taylor Swift almost beat Britney last year with 1.2 million units of “Red”).

“Oops!” is diamond certified and sold 20 million units to date in part thanks to writer/producer, Max Martin, who’s responsible for “Oops,” “Stronger” and “Lucky.”

Britney told MTV at the time:

“It’s kind of hard following ten million, I have to say. But after listening to the new material and recording it, I’m really confident with it.”

An untouchable pop masterpiece!

UPDATE: Britney posted about the anniversary on her Facebook, saying:

“Oops…” is now a teenager, my goodness. Happy 13th!
