One Direction's Free Track

One Direction is still relevant.

The boy band surprised fans with a preview song called “Fireproof” for free off their website this week to celebrate the announcement of their new album, “Four,” and the treat paid off.

It saw over 1.1 million downloads in 24 hours – and it’s not the band’s lead single.

“It’s worth noting that industry sources say a typical free single of the week in the U.S. iTunes Store generates around 300,000 downloads, on average,” says Billboard.

‘Yay,’ One Direction band member Harry Styles is thinking. He remained awfully quiet during an interview this week when the band spoke about splitting off to pursue solo careers.

“Just having each of us, let’s be honest I personally don’t think I’d be able to do it as a solo artist. It’s very intense and hard to comprehend, so it’s good to be able to speak to people who obviously know exactly what you personally are going through,” Louis told reporters at a press conference promoting their new album.

“Yeah and it’s nice to have somebody there every day who’s going through exactly the same stuff you are. It’s beautiful being in this position but it’s also difficult at times. It’s nice to have guys you can turn to,” added Liam.
