Malik says their new single is “sick” and Payne is happy Zayn is doing his own thing now.

It's All Love With One Direction And Zayn Malik

Zayn Malik thinks One Direction’s new song “Drag Me Down” is ‘sick.’

There might’ve been some bad blood between Louis Tomlinson and Zayn when the initial split went down earlier this year, followed by a roller-coaster relationship between Malik, the boys and producer Naughty Boy but it looks as if it’s water under the bridge now – especially if the guys’ reaction towards the British producer is any indication (re: Malik slamming him as a fat joke or 1D trampling a piñata with Naughty Boy’s face on it). The foursome’s “Drag Me Down” broke records last week, becoming the fastest song to reach No. 1 on the iTunes chart ever – and Malik couldn’t be happier. He Tweeted, “Proud of my boys the new single is sick. Big love.”

Malik recently signed to RCA records and says he’s excited to share who he really is music-wise, and Liam Payne backs him up.

“One Direction was never Zayn’s sort of music so he kind of always wanted to find something else,” Payne told Nick Grimshaw on the U.K.’s Radio 1 on Monday (Aug. 3) reports Billboard. “If your heart’s not into something you can’t just carry on doing it because of fame and stuff. You have to go and do what you want to do.”

Payne congratulates Malik for doing pursuing his dream, saying he’s “off doing his own thing at the moment, which is cool for him.”

“There’s too much history for there not to be love,” he said. “But it’s nice that we’ve banded together and I feel like we’re stronger than ever now actually, which is strange but it’s worked out really nicely for everybody.”
