EMOTIONS ARE SCARY. Shawn Mendes sings about one in particular that I tend to avoid. His new song, “Nervous,” is a sugary gem about feeling that sick, icky, gooey, glorious anxious feeling when you’ve got a crush, and you’re actually willing to throw out logic and reason to see what happens.

“I saw you on a Sunday in a café / And all you did was look my way,” he sings. “And my heart started to race / And my hands started to shake, yeah / I heard you asked about me through a friend / My adrenaline kicked in / ‘Cause I’ve been askin’ ’bout you too / And now we’re out here in this room.”

Shawn eventually lunges into a sweet, sweet falsetto as he sings about feeling, you guessed it, nervous.

“Nervous” lands on Shawn’s forthcoming self-titled album. The track follows previous singles “In My Blood,” “Lost In Japan,” “Youth” featuring Khalid and “Where Were You In the Morning?”
