The return of disco is nigh.
Nile Rodgers and Chic took to the stage to give a live rendition of new song “I’ll Be There”.
After reuniting for their first single since 1992 last month, Chic and Nile Rodgers have started promoting their outstanding disco throwback, “I’ll Be There”.
For artists who’ve been working since 1977, it was a ludicrously good performance. The girls of Chic gave some adept live vocals and Nile Rodgers is simply the epitome of cool. Despite being in his ’60s, he can still rock out with the best of them and all things considered it was a pretty compelling performance.
The song is an absolute bop, although whether it’ll set the charts ablaze is still up for debate. Although the throwback sound is very in right now (thanks Mark Ronson) there’s no doubt that the track feels dated – albeit in the best possible way. It’d be amazing to see Chic on the Hot 100 again, but even if “I’ll Be There” doesn’t take off commercially, it’s still a treat to have some new music from these disco legends.
