So many bangers.
Happy New Music Friday August 17, 2018!
So many bangers.
Every Friday, I’ll share Spotify’s updated playlist of the most-recently released songs. Look, I ain’t trying to reinvent the wheel.
Honestly, it’s just not possible to fill you in on the ENDLESS stream of songs/videos that spill onto the Internet every Friday (don’t wanna), but this means you are quite possibly missing out on some very good new tunes, and that’s not what’s up.
Kim Petras – “All The Time”
Pop’s rising superstar has yet to release anything but perfection. “All The Time” is another sparkling, upbeat gem with an infectious chorus and twinkly production. It’s problematic she teamed up with Dr. Luke for it (less problematic are the song’s other co-producers, Cirkut & Aaron Joseph), and I could write an entire thought piece about that, but I’m not going to let the shadow of Luke’s legal woes eclipse this genuinely great pop song.
Jessie Reyez featuring Normani & Kehlani – “Body Count” Remix
Jessie Reyez enlists Normani and Kehlani for a sass-tastic remix of “Body Count.” The Rascals and Babyface-produced track finds the trio oozing feminine empowerment. “You were birthed by a woman, show some fu–ing respect / I like you much better when you shut up and get down, down on your knees.” *Gets down*
Liam Payne – First Time EP
The former One Directioner released a short body of work titled First Time. What do you need to know? 1.) The album was the No. 1 worldwide trending topic on Twitter for hours after its release. 2.) The album title track features French Montana. 3.) The ballad, “Depend On It,” is almost unlistenable. 4.) “Slow” is your standard tropical-tinged bop and 5.) “Home With You” is the best of the four. Did that come across alright?
BTS – Love Yourself: Answer Album & “IDOL” Video
Have trouble logging onto the Internet? That’s because BTS stans swarmed the worldwide web to support the K-pop group in their latest effort. The group released a new album today titled Love Yourself: Answer, along with a video for “IDOL.” Can’t understand a word, but still going to bop to this all weekend.
David Guetta featuring Nicki Minaj, Jason Derulo & Willy William – “Goodbye”
I can’t deny “Goodbye” goes hard, but it’s soooooo generic and basic. Like, zero innovation (which is particularly disappointing considering the entire team is crazy talented). Nicki deserves better than this.
Zedd and Elley Duhé – “Happy Now” Video
Love can make you do some really crazy things. Like, secretly poison and ultimately kill your crush and those closest to him.
