Happy New Music Friday!
I have a Valentine’s Day hangover and I didn’t get a single card, eat a piece of chocolate or smell a rose, but Instagram incessantly reminded me that I don’t have a boo right now, so… I wallowed my sorrows in a sea of new tunes. Thanks, Hallmark, for ruining my self-esteem!
YUNGBLUD featuring Halsey and Travis Barker – “11 Minutes” (Song)
I underestimated Halsey. She’s proven to have the X factor when it comes to creating an impression on the Hot 100. I wasn’t a huge fan of “Without Me” when it first dropped, but it’s a grower. Same with “11 Minutes.” Her new collab with rumored boyfriend YUNGBLUD and Blink 182 drummer, Travis Barker, has the makings of a hit. “We are so distracted and focused on what’s next, we can fail to see what is actually in front of us,” YUNGBLUD said of the song. “We don’t realize how much we need something until it’s taken away from us.” Give the dreamy, rock-pop mid-tempo a play:
Bebe Rexha – “Last Hurrah” (Song)
Bebe dropped her first official release since 2018’s Expectations with “Last Hurrah.” On the Andrew Wells-produced track, Bebe sings about one final bout of partying before she surrenders. “This is my last hurrah / Once I start I ain’t gonna stop ’til I go too far,” she sings. “Last hurrah and it’s okay, maybe tomorrow I won’t feel this pain.” The two-and-a-half minute song is just ok, but I don’t see this one exploding like “I’m A Mess” or “Meant To Be.”
Becky G – “LBD” (Video)
Becky G’s new video for “LBD” is stained in red. The sultry clip finds the pop star dancing under a haze of scarlet light. On the bilingual banger, BG sings over a trap-tinged beat about enticing a suitor. “Every time you see me with my little black dress on / Know you need me,” she purrs. “Say you wanna freak some / I can see it.” Check it out below:
Ciara – “Greatest Love” (Video)
Ciara’s new tune, “Greatest Love,” is a sultry slow jam about husband, Russell Wilson. “From the first day that I met you, it was special,” she purrs. “There was something different ’bout you.” Her buttery vocals melt over a twinkly beat and enchanting chimes. Another reminder of Valentine’s Day, le sigh.
Troye Sivan & Lauv –– “I’m So Tired…” (Video)
Done with love songs? Then “I’m So Tired” is your jam. Troye and Lauv team up together on the bitesized bop. If you’re exhausted from the pursuit of finding love, so instead you throw yourself into a nightclub every weekend to distract your racing thoughts, “I’m So Tired” is your life’s new soundtrack.
Years & Years’ Olly Alexander and MNEK – “Valentino” (Video)
These guys know what’s up. In the video for their collaboration, “Valentino,” off Palo Santo, the two give a big middle finger to love by savagely murdering a giant Valentine’s Day teddy bear. Boyfriends are nice, but friends are forever.
Little Mix featuring Ty DOlla $ign – “Think About Us”
Little Mix dropped a NSFL video for “Think About Us,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign. In it, the girls dance in exotic, staged worlds and join forces in a futuristic club for a dance party. Song is a bop.
