New Music Friday: Drake, Becky G, Cody Simpson, Jhené Aiko, Mura Masa, XYLØ And More

You’re welcome.

Happy New Music Friday: August 3, 2018. Or if it’s Saturday/Sunday shame on you why aren’t you reading BH every gd day?

Every Friday, I’ll share with you Spotify and YouTube’s updated playlist of the most-recently released songs. You call it lazy, I call it efficient.

It’s not possible to fill you in on the ENDLESS stream of songs/videos that spill onto the Internet every Friday (my brain hurts), but this means you are quite possibly missing out on some very good new tunes, and that’s not the tea.

Drake – “In My Feelings” Video

Streaming’s golden boy put forth an eight-minute video for his No. 1 Scorpion smash, “In My Feelings.” It’s a mini-film of dancing, really. A nod to the viral Internet Keke Challenge where morons dance in the street and hopefully (or not) avoid oncoming traffic. This is 2018.

Becky G – “Cuando Te Besé” Video

If you’re sleeping on Becky G, shame on you (and you’re also very alone). The pop star’s new video for “Cuando Te Besé” has amassed more than 5 million views in just 12 hours. In the Paloma Valencia-directed clip, Becky parties in an abandoned warehouse (as opposed to the house party she hit up in her recent video for “Zoot”). Song issa bop, too.

Cody Simpson & The Tide – “Underwater” Video

Sit back and relax to the cool new tune from Cody Simpson and his band, The Tide. The breezy bop paints an adventurous picture of potential masked by a pounding beat and cool guitar melodies. The Taylor Curran-directed video finds Cody blasting the guitar under a harsh blue haze. The possibilities are endless when you find that special someone, and Cody Simpson and The Tide captured that magic in a bottle with “Underwater.”

Jhené Aiko – “Never Call Me” Remix featuring YG

Aiko’s song “Never Call Me” is melancholy pop at its finest, and she breathed new, dreary life into it with a remix featuring YG. Her questions weave in and out of Cashmere Cat, Benny Blanco, Frank Dukes, and Amaire Johnson’s. Whoever this dude she’s singing about is… pick up your effing phone and give Jhené a call, will ya?

Mura Masa & Nao – “Complicated”

Mura Masa and Nao’s new song is a guilty pleasure pop gem. The singer sounds like she gulped a gallon of helium then hit the booth. The 22-year-old UK producer then chucked in a few island-infused sounds and some slick guitar chords and voila! A summery hit. Not that complicated heh.

XYLØ – “I Don’t Want To See You Anymore”

XYLØ sings about keeping her sanity amidst the chaos of heartache on new song “I Don’t Want To See You Anymore.” We’ve all been there – you like or low-key love someone but don’t want to come off like a psycho so you just play this stupid game of not revealing your true feelings out of fear of rejection (or so I’m told). That’s the best way to describe the singer’s new tune. Oh, and there’s also some quirky production gymnastics courtesy of The Electric.

Enjoy:
