Happy New Music Friday!
Anitta & Becky G – “Banana” (Video)
I didn’t know how much I needed a club banger from Anitta until Becky G until I feasted my eyes on “Banana.” The track lands on Anitta’s new album, Kisses, out now. “Bananas” is bananas (ugh, sorry), and the music video is equally wild. The two pop divas grind on a giant banana and lay in a bed of, yup you guessed it… bananas.
Jonas Brothers – “Cool” (Video)
I respect the Jonas Brothers’ game. They returned to the scene with “Sucker,” which topped the Hot 100, then graciously blessed us with another new tune. It’s titled “Cool,” complete with a Miami themed video that could very well be “Cake By The Ocean’s” twin brother. “Cool” is a breezy mid-tempo about being da bomb, but I’m not convinced it’s better than their lead single. However, I also see “Cool” gaining momentum – it’s one of those tunes that gets better with age.
Iggy Azalea – “Sally Walker” (Performance)
“Sally Walker” probably doesn’t belong on BreatheHeavy’s New Music Friday list, but goddammit justice for Iggy. The rapper performed the song, her best-charting Hot 100 hit in three years, on Jimmy Kimmel Live! from Las Vegas. It also features an explosive performance from Drag Race star Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, who nearly outshines Iggy in the opening. Watch the red-hot performance below:
Marshmello & CHVRCHES – “Here With Me” (Video)
I fell in love with Marshmello and CHVRCHES’ new song, “Here With Me,” on the first listen. The laid-back ditty is song of the summer contender (bookmark me). It’s already amassed more than 50 million spins on Spotify since its premiere last month, and there’s no sign of it slowing down. The music video breathes new life into the song with a heartwarming story.
Loren Gray – “Options” (Song)
We recently caught up with rising teen sensation, Loren Gray, about her single, “Queen.” She’s already onto the next with “Options.” On it, magical synths twirl around Loren’s feisty vocal as she sings about having boy toy choices. I like her style.
Also, shout-out to Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus for this genre-bending remix of “Old Town Road.”
