Miley Cyrus borrowed an outfit from Dolly Parton and sang like the icon on Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary special.

Normally when we think of Miley Cyrus, there’s a lot of hippie-chic, psychedelic imagery backed by twerking, tongues and *******. Her tribute performance of Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” had us thinking anything but that.

The refreshing cover stripped Miley of her notorious image for a moment, giving audiences larger than the Smilerz a chance to see WHO she is as an artist again versus the in-your-face drama queen we’re subjected to via Instagram. It’s a reminder that she’s more than a headline on the cover of a magazine or pop music blog; she’s a singer, an artist, not bound by the tight restrictions of typical pop music. She’s diverse in what she sings and how she sings it, signs of a musician with real staying power.
