Mandy Moore returns to music.

Moore released a new song today titled “When I Wasn’t Watching.” It’s a breezy, acoustic number and the first taste off her forthcoming “California-sounding” new album.

“When I Wasn’t Watching” is a triumph for Moore. She revealed in the past that her relationship with ex-husband, singer-songwriter Ryan Adams, was psychologically abusive. He also manipulated her into not working with other music producers and writers.

“The idea of diving back into music after so much time and personal change was really intimidating to me for a while,” Moore said in a statement, “but then I finally realized: I’m the only person who can make this move. It all has to start with me.”

“Watching” marks the first piece of original music since 2009’s Amanda Leigh.
