“Sometimes you cross that line.”

It’s been 25 years since Madonna released her fifth studio album, Erotica, and it continues to produce pop pleasures. A demo of the album title track named “Love Hurts” mysteriously surfaced onto the net today (March 19). According to Wikipedia’s unreleased Madonna music page, the song was produced by remixer Junior Vasquez, who’s crafted official remixes for Britney Spears, Cher, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Elton John, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Whitney Houston and many more.

The Queen of Pop finds herself crooning about love’s seductive pleasures over a twinkly beat wrapped in lace and leather. “Sometimes you cross that line / love hurts,” she sings. “You’ve got to be cruel to be kind / love hurts / tell me what’s on your mind / love stings / love burns / love sings / love yearns / but most of all love hurts. I’ll be your sorceress in your darkest hour / your hearts magician / I’ll unleash your power.” It features a couple of haunting la da dee notes in between breakdowns.

Truly a gem. Listen:
