Lorde’s Whitney Houston Bathtub Photo Was An Honest Mistake, But Awfully Stupid

Lorde posted a picture of a bathtub and captioned it with a Whitney Houston lyric.

Lorde posted a picture of a bathtub and captioned it with a Whitney Houston lyric.

Most people can understand why that’s problematic, but Lorde is not most people and the connection completely slipped passed her.

The Melodrama singer was excited to take a soak in the tub, so she snapped a pic moments before sinking and and captioned it: “And iiii will always love you.”

In case you’re as lost as Lorde was, Whitney Houston died by drowning in a bathtub after an accidental overdose. Three years later, Houston’s daughter, Bobby Kristina Brown, died in a similar manner.

Lorde caught wind of the outrage and deleted the photo, then issued an apology. “Extremely extremely poorly chosen quote,” the songstress wrote. “I’m so sorry for offending anyone—I hadn’t even put this together I was just excited to take a bath.”

She added, “I’m an idiot. Love Whitney forever and ever. Sorry again.”

Lorde also has an Instagram account dedicated to her experiences eating onion rings (I’m not even joking). She penned a second apology there.

“I literally just posted this with references to Whitney Houston’s song “I Will Always Love You”. It wasn’t meant to be offensive or shady in anyway. Whitney is a legend and I would never disrespect her like that and I love her. I was just emphasising on how much I love bath tubs and taking a bath! Sometimes people think too much and it’s harmful to do so. So my post was definitely not to mock Whitney’s death in anyway shape or form!”
