Don’t give up on her.
Don’t give up on Lorde.
The goth pop princess took a moment to address an impatient fan who commented on her latest Instagram post: “Do you think we will ever get another album or should we just give up on you as an artist?”
In 2016, artists face immense pressure to continually churn out new music, but before the Internet, it was the exception to release an album every two years. Now it’s the norm, and for some that time-frame doesn’t provide enough life experience to create anything meaningful (for the record, her last album Pure Heroine dropped just under three years ago).
Lorde took the fan to task. “give up on me if you want to! I’m an artist, I write a record when I have enough special stories to tell, and it’s all me, every melody every lyric, not some team who just start the machine up every eighteen months like clockwork,” she replied. “the record is written, we’re in the production stages now. I’ve worked like a dog for a year making this thing great for you guys.”
Whoops! The fan probably never dreamed Lorde would reply, so they backtracked.
Back in June, Lorde posted a photo inside the recording studio.
“it’s summer in the studio too,” she captioned the photo.
There were even plans of a collaboration on Iggy Azalea’s upcoming album Digital Distortion, but according to Iggy, the 19-year-old was “too busy with her own album.”
“I almost collaborated with Lorde on this album! I sent her the song and it didn’t get done in time, but it’s one of my artistic goals to collaborate with her,” Azalea told Remix magazine back in March. “There’s this one song I wrote for the album but it needed a female singer and she was my number one. She was going to do it, she was totally keen, but she was too busy with her own album.”
She adds, “I hope it can happen, if not on this album then another. I think she’s awesome.”
Don’t give up on her either, Iggy.
