Songwriter sets the record straight.

No beef but Beautiful songwriter Linda Perry takes issue with recent Gaga writing creds.

Lady Gaga has had an amazing 2015 and her 2016 is shaping up to be even better. As she takes her place in history as a Golden Globe winner, her upcoming Oscar nomination for Til It Happens To You looms in the distance.

While there’s no doubt Gaga poured her heart and soul into the vocal performance and the surrounding promotion of the track, raising awareness about sexual abuse, one of pop’s most prominent songwriters took to Twitter to air her feelings about the songwriting credit Gaga received on the track.

It’s important to note that, despite mainstream media trends, two female entertainers can actually be at opposing ends of an issue without that disagreement being a “catfight”, or any kind of fight at all. It would appear Perry was not aware Gaga had received a songwriting credit for a song she’s already very familiar with and wanted to make this known:

She insisted this is not a diss aimed at Gaga, though it may end up being interpreted as one by default.

Linda Perry was originally part of the 90s group 4 Non Blondes and rose to prominence as a songwriter in the early 2000s, in particular for her work on Christina Aguilera’s Stripped and Pink’s Mizundastood. She’s written hit songs for the Sugababes, Britney, Gwen Stefani, Adam Lambert, Miley Cyrus and Adele.
