He’s a good sport.

Liam Payne released his debut album, LP1, a week before Harry Styles dropped Fine Line. Payne’s first-week sales were painful. The LP debuted at no. 111 on the Billboard 200 before plummeting into oblivion in its second week. Meanwhile, his former One Direction bandmate, had one of the best-selling weeks in 2019.

Fine Line soared to No. 1 this week with 478,000 in sales, according to Nielsen Music. 393,000 were physical album sales thanks to a tour and merchandise bundle promotion. It also amassed 109 million streams. The album was also available for purchase on vinyl, which sold exceptionally well – 28,000 units. That gives Styles the third-biggest total for an album in 2019.

Payne posted a congratulatory note for Styles.

“Massive congrats H, on becoming the first UK Male artist to debut at No.1 with your first two albums,” he wrote. “What an achievement, you must be over the moon.”

It’s hard not to feel a little pity for Liam.

      1. For sure. You can tell from the way he congratulated Harry on his IG post, there’s a little envy there. That “you must be over the moon” is so heartbreaking 💔 you just know he’s wondering what it’s like to have a massive number one album. 😔

        1. He has like 5 enormous #1 albums with one direction so he knows what it feels like but it must be super upsetting for him and louis and niall to realize without the other 4 they can’t seel a record for **** whereas harry is a star with or without them. Zayn started off so promising too and just gave up by the second record. Merry Christmas Roxxy
