Lauren Jauregui kicks off her solo career with a seductive new song titled “Expectations.”
Expectations… man, they’ll get ya every time. That’s Lauren’s biggest gripe on her new Kid Harpoon-produced single.
The singer also shared a moody, black and white visual for the clip that finds the former Fifth Harmony member running from… herself.
“Wish I had no expectations / I wish that I could get it through your head,” she sings over sugary guitar strings and a gooey beat. “With no confrontation / I really wish we could talk about it instead.”
“’Expectations’ is an exploration of when you’re in a relationship with someone and you don’t want to have expectations,” Lauren told Billboard of the track.
“But they kind of get in the way, regardless, so it’s about that.”
I loved the track after only one listen, so I look forward to seeing how it blossoms over the winter months. And her raspy, smokey tone brings a unique essence to the track that most pop girls in the game couldn’t do justice.
Strong lead for Miss Jauregui!
Oh, and be sure to stick around to the end of the video for the twist (muahahaha)!
