And it’ll leave you speechless.
Lady Gaga will make you cry – and help thousands of people – with her new song.
After several low-quality leaks, the final version of Lady Gaga’s heartbreaking ballad “Till It Happens To You” has premiered today (Aug. 19).
The emotionally charged song, co-written by Diane Warren, was used for the “The Hunting Ground,” a 2015 documentary film about the sexual abuse that occurs on college campuses.
The singer’s vocal performance is extraordinary on the piano-led ballad, even more so than usual as the subject of sexual abuse is one that is, tragically, close to her heart.
In an interview with Howard Stern last December, the pop superstar admitted that she was a victim of **** several years ago, while in the music industry.
“I went through some horrific things. I’m able to laugh now because I’ve gone through a lot of mental, physical and emotional therapy to heal over the years.”
She said she was a shell of her former self years later after reflecting. “It happens every day and it’s really scary and sad,” Gaga continued. “It didn’t affect me as much right after as it did about four or five years later.” Her reason for not calling out her attacker? “I wasn’t even willing to admit that anything had even happened. I don’t want to be defined by it.”
“Till It Happens To You” is a brilliantly-written ballad and its painful message only hits home harder when the singer’s own experiences are considered.
Gaga has always been more than capable to write and perform ballads (“Speechless,” “Yoü and I”) but this song might be the first one that can inspire, help and change lives.
