Lady Gaga takes home the coveted award for Best Actress at the National Board of Review.
Lady Gaga’s critically acclaimed and generally beloved film, A Star Is Born, is expected to take home a collection of trophies during awards season 2019, and she just took home her first from the National Board of Review.
The NBR is an organization made up of film enthusiasts, industry professionals, academics, and filmmakers. It’s also followed closely by the New York Film Critics Circle.
“I don’t look back on this experience as filming a movie,” Gaga said accepting the honor. “We became two people who were not us, and lived and breathed as them for a moment in time that I will never forget.”
“Ally was all the things I was not when I went out into the world and decided to pursue my dreams,” she continued.” I had to reflect on an earlier time in my life, in high school and earlier when I was bullied. I felt unheard. I was traumatized by people telling me over and over again that I wasn’t and could never become who I dreamed of becoming.”
It’s also worth mentioning Gaga’s co-star and the film’s director, Bradley Cooper, took home a win for Best Director. Sam Elliott won Best Supporting Actor. The movie was also ranked as one of the Top 10 films of the year.
Some Little Monsters aren’t actually celebrating this win, because they’re worried it means she won’t take home Best Actress at the Oscars. More often than not the actress who wins this award by the NBR doesn’t take home the Oscar, however it’s not set in stone. Several actresses this decade have managed to win both. And hey, a win’s a win!
