The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards happened last night, with performances from Iggy Azalea, Jennifer Hudson and Nick Jonas.

The KCA’s are one of those award ceremonies that seem to creep up on us every year, going completely unnoticed until the morning after when you realise that they actually had some pretty decent performances.

Check out Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson performing their new single, “Trouble”, and first time host Nick Jonas kicking everything off with a mash-up of “Jealous” and “Chains”. Plus, see who took home those, um, ‘coveted’ surfboards.

Nick Jonas opened the show with his largely forgotten lead single, “Chains”, and biggest hit so far, “Jealous”. Despite beginning with a VT that comprised only of the biggest stars of the evening repeating the word Nick for a solid minute (yes, it was terrifying) it was actually a really strong showing from Jonas. He’s an adept vocalist and probably a more compelling performer than people typically give him credit for. Plus “Jealous” is still an absolute jam and as forgettable as “Chains” is, he handled himself well on stage, not getting overwhelmed by the myriad of acrobatic and gymnastics taking place behind him.

Another surprisingly exciting performance came from Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson who took to the stage to promote new single, “Trouble”. Say what you want about Azalea – and God knows we do – she knows how to put on a show. The production was pretty much flawless and I-G-G-Y looked and sounded great. Jennifer Hudson absolutely smashed it, but that probably isn’t a huge shock to anyone – despite not having racked up any particularly big hits, the American Idol alum and Oscar winner never fails to deliver outstanding vocals.

5 Seconds of Summer also performed, if that’s something you’re at all interested in. Whilst their rendition of The Romantics cover “What I Like About You” was perfectly listenable, I cannot hear that song and think of anything apart Amanda Bynes’ 2002 teen sitcom of the same name.

There are never too many awards for musical achievement at the KCAs, but you can see who did pick up surfboards here:

Favorite Male Singer: Nick Jonas
Favorite Female Singer: Selena Gomez
Favorite Music Group: One Direction
Favorite New Artist: Fifth Harmony
Favorite Song Of The Year: “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj

Not an entirely unpredictable list, I’m sure you’ll agree.

What did YOU think of the evening’s performances?
