Katy Perry breaks a record.
It’s a big week for Katy. Her new album Witness is on track to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. She’s also the first person to reach 100 million accounts on Twitter. Notice how I did not use the word ‘people.’ That’s because the social media platform is notorious for inflating high-profile accounts with “fake” followers, or bots. They are usernames created through automated methodology.
There are whispers that if we’re looking at actual followers count sans bots, Selena Gomez would be the reigning queen of Twitter. Which makes complete sense considering she owns that title on Instagram.
Twitter is still celebrating the feat anyhow.
Today, we #WITNESS history.
