Katy Perry And Nicki Minaj Got Nothin’ But Net On ’90s-Tinged New Song “Swish Swish”: Listen

Swish Swish, bish.

The rumors were true. Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj teamed up together for a new song titled “Swish Swish” off the pop star’s forthcoming album Witness (out June 9).

It’s a smart move for Katy. Her fourth era has had one too many missteps this early on – “Chained To The Rhythm” was woke, but underperformed. “Bon Appétit” debuted at No. 76 on the Hot 100 but it’s likely to plummet off in the coming weeks. Then there’s the tragically awesome cover art for Witness. Katy needs some forward momentum, and Nicki Minaj represents that. Not only is she the 2017 collab queen, but the rapper recently snatched a historic title from Aretha Franklin for having the most hits on the Hot 100 by a woman ever. By the sound of “Swish Swish,” the ladies got a hit on their hands. Your move, Internet.

On the throwback track, Katy sings about exuberant confidence. “A tiger don’t lose no sleep / Don’t need opinions from a shellfish or a sheep,” she croons over a sampling of (or extremely close to) UK house star Maya Jane Coles’ massive club hit “What They Say,” which Nicki borrowed in 2014’s “Truffle Butter.”

Speaking of, her raps are fierce as ever. “Don’t be trying to double back I already despise you / All of that fake love you’ve shown me couldn’t even disguise you.”

This is the best Witness track we’ve heard yet. Listen below:
