Listen to McPhee’s fun ’80s new bopper.

Katherine McPhee: "Lick my Lips"

Katharine McPhee’s new song “Lick My Lips” is out.

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard a new tune from the former American Idol star, but Katharine McPhee is officially back on the music scene with her new single “Lick My Lips.” She takes a page out of Taylor Swift’s trendsetting record, “1989,” (as many have) with her ’80s throwback single and the launch of the Katharine comeback. It’s a pleasant bopper that finds the comfortable middle ground of sweet and seductive (RE: not that innocent, good girl faith & a tight little skirt), using a funky synth behind McPhee’s voluptuous airy vocals singing about licking lips.

Scooter Braun, who’s responsible for the careers of Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen and Tori Kelly, also manages McPhee, so excuse us while we sit back and curiously watch how her next several months unfold (meanwhile, Bieber continues his PR repair campaign, Carly Rae Jepsen is really really really trying to promote her latest single and Tori Kelly sort of shot up to super stardom overnight).
