The latest release off ‘R.O.S.E.’
Jessie J is reeling from a relationship that went up in flames.
Following “Think About That” is another vulnerable cut titled “Not My Ex” off her forthcoming project, R.O.S.E., which stands for Realisations, Obsessions, Sex and Empowerment.
On “Not My Ex,” Jessie delivers an honest truth about the walls she’s built around her. “My ex used to tell me I’m flawless / When laying low with all the girls / Believed him when he said he was honest / Then blame myself when I got hurt,” the songstress sings over a thumping beat and icy strings. Knowing perfectly well she can’t drag her past into the present, Jessie tries to let any lingering resentment go. “But now you wanna love me, who knows what you’ll find / It won’t be easy, but I’m down for the ride / Just remember / You’re not my ex, no.”
The video is pretty straight forward. It’s a black & white close-up of Jessie putting her vulnerability on display.
