Jason Derulo goes Zombie burlesque in the lyric video for “If I’m Lucky.”
The hitmaker’s new video is super slick and could easily work as an official video. In it, Derulo, wearing a pair of eerie blue-tinted contact lenses, dances with his squad under a purple-aqua haze. At one point, female zombie dancers with blood smeared on their faces and exposed bones gyrate and touch Derulo into a precarious position. Story of my life TBH.
A dark visual for a dark emotion. “It comes from past relationships that you think most things are good, but for some reason or another, things just don’t work out,” Derulo tells Billboard of the song’s inspiration. “They’re someone who are really compatible for you but for some reason it just doesn’t work. Hopefully that situation can pan out in the next life.”
It’s pretty great. My biggest gripe? The horrendous font for the lyrics. A creepy, stylized font in white, green and neon yellow instead would’ve really elevated the feel. If you like this, wait for the real visual, which he says acts more like a film than a music video (which he says ties in where the lyric video left off).
“If I’m Lucky” lands on Derulo’s forthcoming album, 777.
