Jamie Lynn Spears Wrestles With Love In New Country Tune “Sleepover”
“I needed to really grow up myself so I could be the woman that my daughter deserves.”
Jamie Lynn Spears has a new country ditty titled “Sleepover.”
The mid-tempo tune, co-written by Spears, Tina Parol, Corey Crowder and Liz Rose (Taylor Swift, Little Big Town, Tim McGraw), tells the story of wanting an old-fashioned relationship and taking it slow.
“‘Sleepover’ has really set the tone for my next chapter as an artist,” says Spears. “Sometimes I forget that I’m only 25 years old so I wanted to embrace that. We as women can be mothers and wives, but we can still be confident, sexy and flirty. ‘Sleepover’ really helped me understand that side of me more.”
Spears grew up before our very eyes as the star of Nickelodeon’s teen show Zoey 101, but her life took a sudden turn when she became pregnant at 16-years-old.
“I needed to really grow up myself so I could be the woman that my daughter deserves,” she continued. “And not everything needs to be seen or heard. Even though I was out of the spotlight, I was working very hard on creating a great song catalogue and setting some real cemented foundation for a future for us.”
“Sleepover” comes just a few days before the premiere of Jamie Lynn’s one hour TLC special titled Jamie Lynn Spears: When The Lights Go Out, which airs on TLC on Sunday, June 26th at 10/9c. It details her turbulent life following the announcement she was pregnant, to the calm and stable life she’s made for herself now at home in Louisiana.
“I started from the last time the world really knew me and I told my story from there to where I am now. And that bridges the gap,” says Spears. “People met me as a child, but they don’t understand how I became the adult I am today. Telling the story of being in Nashville, writing constantly, and being a mother and being honest about what it took to be where I am now… It’s important for me to introduce myself as an artist and as a woman, because people only remember me as a little girl.”
