Interscope Reportedly Cancels Promotion Of Zedd & Kesha’s “True Colors”

May 9, 2016 By Jordan Miller

Kesha had a plan to return to radio, but it’s been foiled.

Will Kesha ever catch a break?

Earlier this year, Zedd extended an invitation to Kesha to produce a song for her. The two ended up collaborating on “True Colors,” and the whirring electro-pop track was an instant hit. The slick-production was the cherry on top of what the song really meant; Kesha was recording and releasing new music.

I’ve escaped my capture and I have no master.

Zedd made it clear Dr. Luke gave his stamp of approval ahead of the release (ugh), but nonetheless it looked like a step in the right direction for the songstress. It was slated to get an official release this week, but according to a new report from Headline Planet, Interscope, which reps Zedd, put the kibosh on sending it to pop radio. They claim “Interscope’s radio promo sheet originally said it was impacting this week. Not anymore.” They add: “No update was provided regarding why…or if/when it will actually be going for pop radio adds.”

What gives?

The tune didn’t connect with the masses, but a proper release was a positive signifier Kesha was on the right track. Now more than ever, Kesha’s musical presence feels so up in the air.
