Iggy Azalea Signs $2.7 Million Record Deal With Empire
Iggy Azalea aligns with Empire.
The Australian rapper announced her departure from Island Records earlier this month (read more about that below). Iggy wanted full creative control over her forthcoming works, so she signed a multi-million deal with Empire.
In a press release, the company says Iggy has plans to “utilize its innovative label services to oversee the release and promotion of Azalea’s highly anticipated new music and forthcoming sophomore album.”
“I’m so excited to begin a new entrepreneurial chapter in my career with EMPIRE as my partner,” Iggy said. “The ability to have control of my own artistic future is a long awaited and monumental change in my life. I genuinely feel I am in the best position to achieve my creative ambitions.”
EARLIER // NOVEMBER 15:
Iggy Azalea is has officially parted ways with Island Records.
Iggy has had an extremely difficult trail following her rise to stardom.
The “Mo Bounce” rapper tried putting out Digital Distortion when she was attached with Def Jam, but due to creative differences it was never released.
“So that’s that,” Iggy said at the time. She took aim at ex Def Jam boss Steve Bartels. “I’m very unhappy with the way things have been handled too. I will make sure it’s not this way for ia3… I can assure you guys of that.”
Iggy moved to Island Records and started over. She concocted Survive The Summer, which was also met with friction and took longer than expected to debut. It didn’t perform to the level Island hoped for.
And things take another turn… Iggy has officially parted ways with Island.
Earlier this month, she Tweeted followers about plans to possibly release a mixtape “now that I can do whatever the f–k I want.”
Iggy never confirmed that’s what this meant… until now.
In now-deleted Tweets, Iggy explained she wants to be independent.
“I love Island, but don’t want a label,” she said. “There are conversations happening at the moment. I want to be my own boss. I feel I would be better off if I could make my own timeline etc choices and I have the funds to do it.”
She added: “It’s just a conversation I don’t know if I will be able to actually make it happen or not. I would still be happy with Island they are good people too… just feel it would be better for me as a business to have the control when im confident I can run it well alone.”
A week later, Iggy confirms she’s no longer signed.
I’m officially unsigned, she said with four exclamation points. “Wild you spend so long trying to get IN a record deal… never thought I’d be so elated to be OUT of one. “Now I’m free to release whatever kinda music I like, whenever I’d like woooo!”
Iggy confirmed there won’t be any new music out this year, but hopefully early 2019. And hey, if her peers are feeling generous, perhaps she’ll jump on a track.
See what’s good below:

I actually felt a little nervous yesterday, I guess I was worried people wouldn’t get my choice and would make it negative somehow. Everyone’s been really supportive of this move – thanks for understanding and making me even more excited for all the new stuff. Skys the limit. ?
I actually really have.
It has been killing me knowing it was in negotiations for the last two months and you guys were wondering why I wasn’t putting out more singles etc. I am not good with secrets! I’m happy now we all know! https://t.co/ZthyAMUFLt
