Iggy Azalea survived the summer to bring us ‘In My Defense.’
Let’s get this out of the way. Iggy Azalea doesn’t give a **** if she sells 42 albums. Seriously.
Yes & I just want to say now,— IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) July 18, 2019
I don’t give a **** if only 42 ppl buy it. All 42 of y’all getting another album next year. I’m not stoppingggg https://t.co/T3bQQQmFDr
The message here is that it’s about the music not the bling, so In My Defense is a real triumph. That’s a good stance considering her perspective on payola in the biz.
Iggy left her former label to distribute her music as an ‘independent’ artist because she felt like she wasn’t getting to steer her career in the ways she wanted to. That meant funding her own songs and videos, and though it’s cost her a pretty penny, she did not disappoint (“Sally Walker” is a serve).
Iggy’s new album features Lil Yachty, Kash Doll, Stini and Juicy J. It boasts stomping beats, trap-inspired production and hard-hitting lyrics that finds Iggy defending her status as a white female rapper.
